We Believe
…in the Trinity of God: God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
…in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ
…in the virgin birth of Jesus
…in the forgiveness of sin only through the blood of Jesus
…in salvation by grace through faith, not works
…that the Bible is the inspired Word of God
…in divine healing in answer to the prayer of faith
…in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit
…in an eternal, literal heaven for believers and an eternal, literal hell for unbelievers
…in a personal, bodily, soon return of Jesus Christ
Where We've Been + Where We're Going
Living Word Church (LWC) had its start as a Saturday night Bible Study taught by Rene' at the local American Legion Hall in February of 1979. Rene' and Vicki drove to Houma every weekend from Poplarville, Mississippi, and by June of 1979 church services were started. LWC has had a steady growth since 1979, and it has become a stable church of good reputation in Houma. We strive to be good citizens, and to affect our town for Jesus Christ.
LWC is a nondenominational, Charismatic, independent church. Our members are from all walks of life, and they represent the great variety of ethnic backgrounds we have in south Louisiana. We are made up of mostly Caucasian, African-American, and Louisiana Cajun people. We were former Catholics, Atheists, Methodists, Mormons, Baptists, and all varieties of those in between. Now we are joined in the common Lordship of Jesus Christ and we serve Him together wherever He has us. We all have our own mission fields as we daily go about our work in the schools, oil field, medical field, barber shop, restaurants, home building, or wherever God has us. We try to be the best we can in order that we will serve as a good witness for our Lord.
Houma Christian School (HCS) is one of our largest ministries. In 1985 HCS was opened to educate our children and the children of other Christians in our area. We have about 15 different churches represented in our student body. The school is from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The school has an excellent reputation in the community and in our state. Our students excel in organized sports and they have won many state championships for our school. Our choir has won many awards. Our students also excel academically and our graduates have received many excellent college scholarships. We have had several National Merit Scholarship Finalists in our graduating classes.
We have found that God has big plans for our future. Through His blessings, we were able to purchase 90 acres on Highway 311 for our future church facilities. The land will include our new church, as well as a prayer garden, a citrus grove, a nature trail, a baseball field, and a mausoleum. Construction has begun, and we expect to build the complex completely debt-free.
Come be a part of all that God is doing in our church as we minister to our families and communities!
